951 Werks
Welcome to the homepage of 951 Werks! :-) This site was created in July 2023 as a repository for useful information when owning and working on a Porsche 944 turbo.
The 951 community is already rich with information, but I found that some info that circulates is incomplete, rather incomprehensive, and sometimes wrong.
Even the well-known websites (you know which one I mean in particular) have some errors which make working on the 951 more difficult than it needs to be.
Because it is impossible to edit other people's websites, and I don't want to bury the information on one of the many 951 forums, I started this website. I do not intend to make this the only 951 website you should have bookmarked, but rather envision it as an addendum to the many terrific websites there already are on our cars.
I hope to share some knowledge and tips hard-earned during my hours wrenching on my 944 turbo. And I hope you'll find it useful.

My 1986 944 turbo, minutes after I brought it home.
951 Werks
This is the history of my car.
951 Werks
My car is a very lightly optioned car which has its obvious drawbacks. On the other hand, this means there is also less stuff that can break or rust. It luckily does have airconditioning, which is a big plus in my book.
Color LM3Y/LM3Y: garnet rot metallic
Interior: burgundy leather
Options:
139: seat heating, left
298: prepared for unleaded fuel (catalyst, fuel filler neck), manual transmission car
418: side protection mouldings
423: holder for cassettes and coins
573: air conditioner

This is where I'll post the weird, funny or frustrating relics of the previous owner.

- Dust cover cap missing from behind ignition cap
- Right heat shield missing that protects motor mount from exhaust heat
- Bad welding on exhaust headers
- Bad welding on exhaust pipe
- Timing belt and rollers
- Water pump
- The cap of a brake fluid reservoir was wedged in between the heater core unit.
- One of the windshield wiper valves was wrapped in wrapping film.

This is where I will post all breakdowns of my 944 turbo. This list only includes breakdowns that happen during actual drives or test drives. For an exhaustive list of broken stuff, see the work done page.
April 24, 2024:
- After a 5 km drive to the fuel station where I went to air my tyres, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. A coolant line had ruptured and was spewing coolant all over the place. I parked the car, and went to the local DIY store to get duct tape, a funnel and 5L of demineralised water to refill the system. In the end, I used the coolant I still had in the car. The duct tape didn't hold up, but after a mid journey stop to refill the reservoir again with the last of my coolant, I made it back home.
A quick second stop to add a bit more coolant.

Technical articles
Here you will find an overview of technical procedures that I have carried out myself. These are guidelines and walkthroughs, filled with tips you may not find on the well-known websites such as Clarks or Pelican Parts.
951 Werks
Here you will find links to the websites I have used most during the restoration and ownership of my 951. Their inclusion on this website is a token of approval, or at least of my personal assessment that I could recommend them and their services to others. I do not stand to gain anything from their inclusion.

Vendors I used
- 9xxTeile: local Belgian shop that is willing to order the little parts at Porsche, free pick up possible, good service!
- RosePassion: the well-known French Porsche superstore that has almost everything. Sometimes a bit expensive though, but good delivery times (unfortunately not free).
- Rennbay: great little USA shop, willing to work to lower custom charges. Good fuel line kit.
- Lindsey Racing: well known USA performance shop. Has interesting stuff, especially Xover pipe gaskets.
- Europa Parts: mixed reviews on the internet, but were very prompt in answering mails. Especially fast delivery: only 4 days from USA to Belgium. Had a killer deal on a brand new OEM air flow meter!
- Pelican Parts: well-known USA super store with a large selection. Clear shipping prices to EU and also sells Rennbay items.
Second-hand parts vendors
- Exclusive Classics: Dutch parts store that used to specialise in 944 but went with more modern Porsches as that's where the money is. Still has a lot of 944 parts, bought a Xover pipe there. Nice guy.
- 944parts: Small scale Dutch parts store. Friendly and knowledgeable guy, sold me a nice pair of exhaust headers for cheap.
